A camp collar shirt has a relaxed, open neckline that suits casual outfits. It can work on its own, over a tee or under a light layer. The useful question is how the shirt's length and volume fit the rest of your outfit.
1. With matching shorts
Start with a coordinated shirt and shorts, such as the Coastal Camp Set - Royal Blue. Wear the shirt comfortably buttoned, leaving the open neckline as intended. Add simple sneakers or sandals suited to your plans. If the colour is bold, a plain bag and understated shoes keep the combination easy to wear.

2. Open over a plain T-shirt
Wear the shirt open over a tee with shorts or straight trousers. The base layer should sit smoothly under the shirt rather than bunch at the sleeves. Look in a mirror from the side: a tee that extends well below the overshirt can change the proportions. Choose the length deliberately, or use a shorter tee.
3. With trousers for a casual evening
Pair a restrained shirt colour with trousers in a complementary tone. Try the shirt untucked first. If it is long enough to tuck securely without creating a bulky waist, a full tuck can also work. Add loafers or clean sneakers according to the venue's dress code; an open-collar outfit is not automatically suitable for a formal restaurant.
4. Under a cardigan
For a cooler evening, add a cardigan with enough room through the shoulders and sleeves. The Fireside Cardigan is one textured option. Arrange the two collars so they lie comfortably rather than forcing them to overlap. If the cardigan feels tight across the upper arms, try a thinner shirt or a roomier layer.
5. With contrasting shorts and a day bag
Separate a matching set and wear the shirt with shorts you already own. A blue shirt with neutral shorts is an easy starting point. Keep the shorts' volume in proportion to the shirt and check that your bag's strap does not constantly pull the collar out of place. Choose bag size for what you carry rather than for a material label.
Check the fit before choosing a size
Compare the shirt's measurements with a casual shirt you like. Reach forward, sit down and check that the buttons do not pull. If you intend to wear it open over another top, allow space for that layer. Use the size guide and the individual product listing; do not assume every camp collar shirt shares the same cut.
See our matching-set guide for checking the bottom half, or use the ten-item vacation list to build several outfits around one shirt.
