A knit polo can work between a casual tee and a more structured shirt, depending on its fabric, collar and fit. Rather than treating every polo as interchangeable, choose the sleeve length and silhouette that suit your routine.
Start with the individual garment
The current Sienna Knit Polo in Cream is long-sleeved; the Dusty Blue version has short sleeves and an open V-neck collar. Both are listed as 80% viscose and 20% nylon. Those details come from the current listings; check the product you are ordering rather than assuming a shared name means identical construction.
Traditional pique polos are also knitted fabrics. Here, “knit polo” refers to the sweater-style look of the examples, not a claim that other polos are woven.
1. With tailored-looking trousers
Use a clean trouser silhouette for a relaxed dinner outfit. Try the polo untucked first, then tucked if the hem and waistband sit smoothly. Check the venue's dress code before choosing this in place of a dress shirt.
2. With casual drawstring trousers
Pair a cream polo with stone or dark trousers for an easy daytime outfit. Avoid assuming that two cream items will match exactly; compare their tones in daylight. Let the polo sit comfortably over the waistband if tucking creates bulk.
3. Under a suede-look jacket

4. With shorts
Try a short-sleeved polo with shorts that allow comfortable sitting and walking. Balance the top's volume with the leg opening, and choose sneakers or sandals for your activity. A polo does not make shorts appropriate for every restaurant or workplace.
5. With a cardigan
A cardigan offers an adjustable layer for cooler days. Start with a simpler polo under a strongly textured cardigan. If the two collars crowd your neck, leave the cardigan open or choose a plain crew-neck base instead.
6. With dark trousers for a casual office
Choose a restrained colour and shoes that fit your workplace. Keep the neckline at a depth you are comfortable wearing there. If your office expects formal business clothing, use a more appropriate outfit rather than relying on a polo to replace it.
