A resort packing list needs to cover more than outfits in a photograph. The right selection depends on your hotel's dress codes, planned activities, weather and access to laundry. Use this checklist to decide what belongs in your bag, then choose quantities for your own trip.
Check four things before choosing clothes
- Dinner requirements: read the rules for each restaurant you plan to visit. Some require long trousers or closed shoes.
- Activities: sightseeing, pool time and a formal event may need different clothes. Do not expect one pair of sandals to cover everything.
- Weather: check daytime and evening conditions, including rain. A warm destination can still have cool indoor spaces.
- Laundry: confirm availability, cost and turnaround before relying on rewearing a small capsule.
Clothing checklist
- Comfortable travel clothes you can also wear during the trip.
- Casual shirts, polos or tees in colours that work with your bottoms.
- Shorts for the occasions where you want to wear them.
- Long trousers if required for dinners or useful for travel and cooler evenings.
- Swimwear, underwear, socks and sleepwear, counted separately.
- An additional layer or rain protection if the forecast calls for it.

Footwear and bag checklist
Bring walking shoes you already find comfortable. Add pool or beach footwear and any shoes needed for your dinner reservations. Check whether a proposed pair can serve two roles before adding another.
Choose a day bag based on its actual dimensions and what you carry: phone, wallet, keys and any daily extras. Check the closure and strap adjustment. Appearance alone does not tell you whether a bag is weatherproof or will fit a particular item.
Extras that are easy to overlook
- Travel documents and reservation details.
- Chargers and the appropriate plug adapter.
- Your usual toiletries and personal essentials.
- A separate bag for wet or worn clothing.
- Any activity-specific equipment that the hotel does not provide.
Do a complete packing rehearsal
Lay out a travel outfit, a daytime outfit and each required dinner outfit. Include shoes and layers. Remove pieces with no clear role, then check baggage dimensions and weight against your airline's current allowance.
